THE SCHUSTACK RESIDENCE – 1957

The Schustack Residence – 1957 - by Howard Lane FAIA.  Originally a student of Mies van der Rohe in Chicago, the visionary designs of Lane’s Los Angeles firm were known mostly through commercial buildings such as the Neo-Streamline Moderne Travelers Insurance Building on Ventura Boulevard.  This is only the second offering of this rare modernist post and beam style gem.  The current owner, an international designer, has meticulously kept up the stewardship of the home in retaining the original design features while adding just enough touches of his own to create a spectacular city escape. The intention of the original owner was for the house and lot to operate as a true family home. While located at the base of the Hollywood Hills, the 19,000+ square foot lot (per public records) offers a generous amount of flat space for entertaining.  A recently built, glistening, kidney-shaped pool completes the perfect modernist atmosphere.
